Zero to Hero: Where and how to learn
Beginner drop-in lessons
For new casual dancers
These lessons run before the social dance.
Beginner drop-in lessons offer a casual way for you to start swing dancing. You can attend these drop-in lessons whenever you would like without needing to pre-register and you can attend them as frequently as you wish. Each beginner-drop in lesson goes through the very basics for new dancers, but may cover different moves and techniques each time.
Swing 1 (5 weeks)
For new eager dancers
This lesson series offers much more than the beginner drop-in lessons at our social dances. In this series you will learn the essential technique, rhythm, and moves that are iconic to swing dancing. Each lesson builds on the previous lesson, and the instructor caters to the class skill level. If you want to invest your time really getting to know this dance, then this series is for you!
Swing 2
For dancers who:
Completed Swing 1 lesson series or
Learned the 6-count rhythm at our social dances or
Continuing dancers who have already taken this series, other series, & still want to learn
In this series, there are many different topics that can be covered, including (but not limited to): 8-count rhythm, Charleston, musicality, technique, moves/combinations, partner connection, slow vs fast dancing. The topic of the class will be decided by the instructors based on their assessment of the dancers in their class. If you are keen on continuing your learning and improving your swing dancing, then this series is for you!
Balboa 2
For Dancers Who
Completed Balboa 1 lesson series or
Are comfortable with pure balboa rhythms/repertoire (down-hold basic, come-arounds, lollies, etc...)
In Balboa 2, we introduce you to the world of bal-swing! This side of balboa comes with incredibly fun turns and moves/rhythms that involve breaking away from your partner.
You will build on the foundation from the previous series and learn new fun ways to move with your partner and develop your partner connection skills. If you want to invest your time really getting to know this dance, then this series is for you!
Workshops
For dancers who:
Completed our beginner Swing series or
Learned the 6-count and 8-count rhythm at our social dances or
Dancers who consider themselves “advanced dancers”
In a workshop, we teach a condensed, intensive set of lessons in one day. These lessons cover many weeks of material within just a 3-4 hour period—they are very time effective! The workshop is usually taught by instructors from other dance communities (e.g., Seattle, Edmonton, Vancouver). Since out-of-town instructors teach the lessons, they offer valuable and unique insights and knowledge that you might not be able to learn anywhere else!
Stay tuned for announcements on our next workshop!
