Swing into Spring

Swing has Sprung! Join us for a full, fabulous weekend of dancing and classes.

Meet the Instructors

Lucy Falkner

Lucy discovered Lindy hop in 1999, and has since travelled extensively to dance, train, and teach. She has taken up numerous other dances (West African, Tap, Contemporary Jazz, Ballet, Burlesque, Broadway Jazz, and various contemporary Street Dances), all more or less in service to her first love: Lindy hop.

As a switch dancer from the very beginning of her Swing dance life, Lucy emphasizes the benefits of learning both roles and clear partner communication. Her teaching approach is to encourage dancers to get a feel for the music, to move in a way that is comfortable and authentic to each person, to mess up enthusiastically and frequently, and to keep it simple.

Justin Mufford

Justin fell deeply in love with swing dancing in 2015 in Grande Prairie, founded Lindy in the Loops, and has since taken every opportunity to dance and learn more. He has traveled across Canada and to the United States to attend workshops, teacher development classes, competitions, exchanges, and more. .

Justin is known for his enthusiasm and creativity and brings energy to every room he enters. He is genuinely passionate about teaching and sharing dance. He continually strives for improvement within his own dancing and encourages others to as well.

Bonnie Cleland

Bonnie has been dancing for as long as she can remember, participating in a wide variety of solo styles, performances, and competitions. Her love of all things rhythm is showcased in her Tap dancing, which she has been developing for over 20 years. The history of tap is deeply integrated with the vernacular jazz musical and dances so the next logical style was the Lindy Hop! The first Lindy Hop social dance in Kamloops ignited her interest and so she joined up with Justin to form a dynamic teaching team, and to grow the swing dance beginnings since the origin of our community. Since then, she has taught numerous lesson series and workshop classes and traveled widely to attend workshops, competitions and other dance events.

Bonnie is an exuberant and expressive dancer who is always excited to learn and share new things and her students resonate with the energy she brings to her classes. She is incredibly excited to be bringing together these two styles to show how similar and integrated they can be!

Shayla Chadwick

Shayla started dancing when she was just three years old. Since then she has been competitively dancing in styles including ballet, jazz, tap, hip hop, contemporary, modern, lyrical, acro and musical theatre. Most recently Shayla was on her schools dance team at the University of Alberta. Now back in Kamloops, she has started dancing with Lindy in the loops.
