The TRU Swing Dance club brought Lindy Hop to Kamloops in 2015. With a desire to let the whole community in on the amazing fun that is Lindy Hop, a dance society emerged in 2017. Lindy in the Loops is a registered non-profit society in BC and the TRUSU Swing Dance Club continues to host events and collaborates with Lindy in the Loops to spread the love of Lindy Hop in Kamloops & area.
Our Values are Fun & Friendly
We are a community that values inclusiveness, friendship, and fun.
We believe that everyone can learn how to swing dance, despite what dance experience you have or don’t have. We do our very best to teach swing dance in the most enjoyable, friendly, and understandable way possible.
We warmly welcome people of all ages and skill levels. We don’t expect any sort of commitment if you would simply like to drop in here and there.
In addition to dancing, we like to have social events like board game nights, potlucks and dinners!
Our scene leaders and main instructors are:
Justin Mufford
Justin fell deeply in love with swing dancing when he started dancing in Grande Prairie and since then has taken every opportunity to dance and learn more. He has traveled across Canada to attend workshops, teacher development classes, competitions, exchanges, retreats and has danced to the best music on the planet. He loves dancing with everyone and sharing his love of this magical dance with beginners. He is known for his enthusiasm and creativity and brings energy to every room he enters. He is also genuinely passionate about teaching in general, and continues to strive for improvement.
Just has learned from 14 Lindy Hop workshops (and counting!) and taken private instruction from internationally renowned instructors. He has also placed in competitions at RCMA (Vancouver) and Spring Fling (Edmonton).
Bonnie Cleland
Bonnie has been dancing as long as she can remember, participating in a wide variety of solo styles, performances, and competitions. From the first Lindy Hop dance she knew she needed to try it and so joined up with Justin after the first social dance in Kamloops. Together they started teaching lessons and sharing this fun, inclusive dance, traveling to learn more and running Kamloops’ first swing dance workshops. Since then, she has traveled for dancing and become a real up-and-comer in the Canadian swing dance scene. Bonnie is known for enthusiasm and exuberance and is always excited to learn and share new things. Her students enjoy the energy she brings to her classes.
She has been to 10 Lindy Hop workshops (and counting), learning and getting inspiration from the international Lindy community. The highlight of her experience so far was having lunch with Norma Miller. Bonnie also currently teaches Tap, Musical Theater, and Acro at Akimbo Dance Studio
